Gehman Custom Remodeling wants to turn your remodeling goals into a beautiful reality. In order to do that, careful planning is key. We take your home personally, and we know that to make you the most comfortable it's important that we work with you to design your remodeling project to fit your lifestyle. As we begin to plan your project we ask that you look at some of the following files to help you plan and to make sure that we are on the same page.
In 1990, Gehman Custom Remodeling was launched by Dennis and Glenda Gehman as a family owned and operated business. Time has changed neither our ownership nor our character. We are active in our community, participating in and sponsoring a variety of sports, civic, school and church activities. When you invite us into your home, you will meet happy, fulfilled people who share many of your own interests, values and activities. Every member of the Gehman Custom Remodeling family shares our respect for you as people and your house and our unwavering belief in the value of honesty and integrity.
Gehman Custom Remodeling is proud to employ an amazing staff of master craftsman and highly qualified experts. We have the most National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) Certified Lead Carpenters in the state of Pennsylvania, and a full line up of Master Shingle Applicators (CertainTeed® Roofing Certification). We are associated with both NARI National and Bucks Mont NARI. We are a member of the Building Industries Exchange of Pottstown and Vicinity. Your house is much more than a source of shelter, it’s your home. It’s probably your single biggest financial investment. It’s a repository of your dreams and memories. It’s a reflection of your taste, personality, and lifestyle. Something you undoubtedly take very personally. Remodeling means putting all of this into the hands of virtual strangers. Understandably, a decision you don’t take lightly.
When you select Gehman Custom Remodeling to work with you, we will give you uncompromising personal attention, dedication, diligence and honesty from the moment we first meet you until well after we complete your project. We view every project we take on as a personal relationship. We know that this personal approach and our promise that “We’ll take your home personally” will end with you having a gratifying remodeling experience.
It is a method of project delivery in which the homeowner will contract directly with one company that is responsible for both the design and construction services. You as the homeowner would have one company to deal with rather than being the middle-man between the contractor and the architect/designer.
There are benefits for homeowners that use the design/build process. Your project will be in the hands of one company the entire time and you don’t have to act as the middle man between an architect and a builder. Design/build can save you cost and time, since you are dealing with one team they will be familiar with your project and can do everything efficiently. Design/Build firms also tend to have a better handle on actual costs and can design towards that rather than over-designing for your budget.
Gehman Custom Remodeling is the only design/build remodeling company in the area the backs up their work with a 5-year warranty. It covers all workmanship for a period of five years (structural elements are warranted for ten years). We’re that confident in our work. Of course, you will have little concern that you’ll ever have occasion to take advantage of this warranty, but it’s nice to know it’s there just in case.
You can call our office to schedule an appointment with one of our design consultants or feel free to stop by our showroom to take a look around before scheduling an appointment. At your first appointment the design consultant will talk to you about what you would like to accomplish with your project and tell you more about Gehman Custom Remodeling. You can ask questions and show us ideas that you have gathered. The design consultant will take some digital photos to make things easier for our estimating department. Once the first appointment is complete the design consultant will begin working with the estimating department to get you a budget profile or an estimate.
At Gehman Custom Remodeling, our projects are as unique as our clients, and it would be very difficult to establish a per square foot price for our work. As a matter of fact, you should be leery of a contractor that can. There are many areas that cannot be figured on that basis such as personal preferences and individual requirements in the areas of quality and aesthetics. Remember, we take your home personally and need to be able to see what you have in mind before giving you an estimate.
Gehman Custom Remodeling provides most of the construction trades and strives to complete our projects with as much in-house staff as possible. There are a few trades or areas of specialty that we are not able to complete with our own staff: Excavation, Large Scale Masonry Work, Large Scale Concrete Work, and Large Scale HVAC work.
In all cases we use carefully chosen partners in each of these specialty areas and our partners are supervised by one of our Project Managers to assure quality control and complete client satisfaction.
We can accept personal credit cards (MaterCard or Visa) with a MAXIMUM chargeable amount limited to $3,000.00 per project for the following services: Preconstruction services, small projects of one day or less, emergency services, deposits and/or payments on remodeling projects.
While we do not offer direct financing we have developed relationships with many local financial institutions. We will be happy to introduce you to one or more of them to help you with financing your remodeling project.
Many people don’t realize that when financing a large scale project the contractor gets checked out as much as the homeowner. This should bring you peace of mind to know that your contractor has passed the scrutiny of a financial institution. The last thing you need is for the contractor to go ‘belly up’ before completing your project.
Every township or borough has different building codes, licensing requirements and accompanying fees. It is important to check with a local building authority before you start any project. In most cases, you will need a building permit if you are doing anything structural to your home. Plumbing and electrical permits are also required when doing any work on these utilities. There are some municipalities that require permits to do even the smallest of projects. We are familiar with many of the local township and borough codes and can help guide you through this process.
Gehman Custom Remodeling strives to comply with and uphold all permit and licensing requirements as we complete projects in a particular municipality. We will research the requirement for your project and include all of the drawings and paperwork to complete the permit applications for the same. The fees are so varied and unpredictable that we pay the fees up front and then invoice the fee amount directly to the client dollar for dollar.
Many of the decorating decisions will be made during the design phase of your project. Our showroom as well as numerous vendors / manufacturers showrooms are available to help with this process. Our designers can lend as much guidance as you require and the often give you starting suggestions based on previous conversations of what you are looking for. They will work with you to develop color schemes and provide color swatches and literature samples so that you can make informed decisions. Help will be available through the entire selections process.
