Creating Your Dream Bathroom

Let’s face it – you spend a lot of time in bathrooms. Whether you’re getting ready in the morning, taking a restroom break, relaxing in the tub, giving your children a bath, or cleaning – you spend a significant number of hours in this room.

This is why it isn’t “silly” to invest in your home’s bathroom. You’re in the room a lot – you should make it a place you love and enjoy. There are 3 key steps you should take when it comes to creating your dream bathroom.

1. Understand your Bathroom’s Existing Structure

When it comes to designing your dream bathroom, you’re probably working with an existing structure in your home. If you’re lucky enough to be building something new from the ground up, then you might be able to skip this step.

While it is possible to move a sink, toilet, or shower – it can add significant expense if the existing structure isn’t designed to work that way. You will want to have a good understanding of where drains and water lines are. If you aren’t sure, ask your contractor. They can explain what is possible and what isn’t within your budget and help you make the right decision.

2. Think about Storage

You know what turns a bathroom into a nightmare faster than almost anything else? Lots of clutter. If you don’t have adequate storage – clutter is what you will have. While having a huge open floor plan may feel like the right call for your dream oasis, if you are working with limited space, make sure you plan storage even if it means moving things a little closer together.

Think through what you use in your bathroom, what items you use to get ready, and where you’ll store towels and toiletries.

3. Invest in Quality Fixtures

In addition to storage, you’ll want to think about the fixtures in your bathroom. Make sure you choose a quality shower or bathtub. This is where you’ll want to take time to do a lot of research. There are tons of options, so choosing the right one for you will take time.

In addition to the shower or tub, you’ll also want to think about sink faucets and light fixtures as well. You’ll want to choose things that are functional and attractive.
